Citizen Day 2013: Over 4,500 employees mobilize in France

Today Tuesday June 25th over 4,500 L’Oréal employees in France are joining forces and taking action for the Group’s 4th annual Citizen Day. This day of civic engagement began four years ago and gives every employee who wishes to the opportunity to commit to community actions in the field. This year the personnel in France will provide real, concrete help to 128 local partners and associations.

Conducting well-being workshops, landscaping and cleaning parks, renovating community centers and shelters, running clothing and food drives: Employees will be behind nearly 200 initiatives this Tuesday, 25 June.

“Citizen Day is a day where every L’Oréal employee can take action and act as spokesperson for the Group’s commitment to the community. It’s a day of sharing when, working together, we can have a positive impact on the world around us” declared Jean-Paul Agon, L’Oréal Chairman and CEO. “A company’s goal should not only be to create wealth but also to create value for the public and for society as a whole."

A worldwide event

Citizen Day in France is part of a worldwide movement and all of the Group’s subsidiaries will mobilize for a day or a week, mainly during the month of June. This year, more than 25,000 employees in 60 countries are participating: after L’Oréal China on June 7th and L'Oréal USA on June 14th, other countries will take their turns, such as Brazil and South Africa, mobilising their employees this coming 3 and 19 July.

Citizen Day was founded in 2010 in order to create a special day where, by mobilizing and giving generously of their time, team members’ efforts would embody the Group’s commitment to the community. Citizen Day was inspired by the celebration of L’Oréal’s 100th anniversary in 2009 when 100 community projects were initiated across the world and employees were encouraged to volunteer their time. L’Oréal has since committed to mobilizing its employees around the world for one day every year.
